Ailsa's Doodle Art MX5

When most people have their cars vandalised by yobs and crashed into by vans, they usually repair the car to its previous form; not Aberdeen’s Ailsa Scott though, she saw a chance for her truly creative mind to shine through.

The story starts 12 years ago when Ailsa got the car (When she was just 14 I might add!) and became a member of the Under 17 Car Club which gave her access to drive and learn the car on racing circuits and disused airfields. Ailsa is also lucky enough to come from a car-mad family so she is never afraid to get stuck in and do the work to the car herself. With the Rota Shakotan wheels, Garage Vary front splitter and BC racing coilovers in place, this MX5 certainly had the presence it needed (This is also the reason I love the MX5, very little is needed to make the car look and handle fantastic, but then again I could go on all day about my love for MX5's so I’ll leave it there).

Once Ailsa was really enjoying driving the car on the road everything seemed to happen at once. Some vandals decided to jump all over the car one night and put dents in the bonnet, a van crashed into the side and damaged the door and to put the icing on the cake the car also needed a new gearbox and fuel tank.

Lucky for Ailsa though, her brother managed to get hold of a British Racing Green MX5 that came into his garage as an MOT fail so they managed to get all the parts off the car and once again created a road worthy MX5. With the paintwork looking a little tired in places Ailsa started doodling a little on her headlight covers, however this spread like wildfire and the car was soon looking like the car you see here before you.

Although show season is now well and truly coming to an end this year, expect to see Ailsa’s MX5 at various shows next year on the Team Beard club stand. If you’re wondering what Team Beard is all about, it was founded by Ailsa’s partner Kieran Sweeney and his best mate Marc Smith after they were at SupraPod one year. Due to them both driving twin turbo Supras and both having rather impressive beards, they were affectionately dubbed ‘Team Beard’ and it went from there. If you want to join the club at shows though don’t worry, you don’t need a beard to join them.
