Chris Burton has owned his 106 GTI for about 3 years now and for him it’s the best car he’s ever had ‘’I just love how it handles’’.

Good cars always have mishaps on the way and throughout their builds, but that’s just a great excuse to get new parts and upgrades.

After 3 months of owning the car, the engine kept cutting out, which wasn’t a major problem as it was just a set of coil packs that needed changing.

Soon after though the gearbox went, not ideal when your off to see a film with a lady. As with all young tuners, they try to save their hard earned cash and make it go further buy getting mates to help with builds and repairs. As Chris would say now, there are certain things that should be left to the professionals.

With a failed attempt to change a gearbox on a driveway if that wasn’t bad enough the used gearbox didn’t last a trip to the cinema. So he called in the pros at Spoox Motorsports where they supplied an uprated clutch and rebuilt the gearbox to a high standard.

Working in a paint/restoration body shop does have its benefits, because one day a similar car came in for breaking that had been totalled. So Chris took full advantage of this to straight swap for larger 206 GTI 180 breaks, a set of wheels and full race exhaust along with uprated engine mounts. Again Spoox Motorsports sorted me out along with a drive shaft that was well on its way out.

Chris’s Birthday: He got new drop links and lower arms so once fitted it had to be lowered as well.

In the future Chris is contemplating a custom one off turbo kit for the car and hopes to get a new set of wheels for when the show season starts, ‘’but we shall see’’ he Says.

Chris would like to thank Spoox Motorsports for all their hard work and professionalism and patients when their expertise was required.
